About me (off the record)

Reading & Writing

I write occasionally, though my writings very rarely make it online. I used to read a lot and watch less. Under a bad influence I reversed the pattern, and now I watch more than I read.

I also inherited the habit of watching Turkish series from our family gatherings on weekends. I kept watching more of them on my own, and I learned Turkish thanks to this. But I noticed something: this shift reduces my mental context window. I already quit all social media to fix this, and I'm working on replacing most of the watching with books again.

Curiosity

I'm curious about a lot of things in life: from the tiniest customs and sayings in Morocco, where I can get very peculiar about finding the origin of something, all the way to science in general. Mathematics came naturally because I could build intuition around concepts. That skill never transferred to physics, but I kept returning to it anyway.

In 2020 I spent hours reading books and watching Neil deGrasse Tyson on particle physics and astrophysics. During my engineering degree I also took General Relativity and Quantum Computing, and built $\varepsilon$-non-trivial intuitions for both later on.

Lately I'm more drawn to biology (or what I call inner space). The brain is a beautiful puzzle to me, mostly because I'm wrestling with the intelligence question. I'm also a huge admirer of humanities: how complicated and intelligently made we are as a species, yet how much we rely on simple patterns in our day to day lives. I'm also very much drawn to theology and I very much enjoyed reading this very historically loaded book lately that gave me so much material to look up and think about.

How I tend to be

I have huge respect for humble people. I try to be one, and if you're one, I'd definitely enjoy your company by default.

I also don't like to subscribe to an idea or paradigm for too long. You'll always find me exploring new stuff and criticizing previous stuff I did. Not sure if this is a good thing. I hope I'll converge to something I can stay with for very long (or not 😉).

When I'm at home in Morocco I very much like staying home. When I'm not at home, I generally prefer getting out or hanging out with friends. I also cook well but rarely, as I identify as a lazy person.

Study notes & writing

My notes are usually unstructured. But I found that publishing them might be a good reward system to get them structured. So I'm building a space for that. Coming soon.

Also: even from a country very well known for its tea, I don't drink tea... Or coffee.
